Analytical

Analytical services

  • LWC offers a wide range of analyses, supporting both epidemiology and health outcomes functions.
  • LWC offers experienced qualified staff to provide high quality, innovative and suitable statistics and deliverables for publication and submissions.

Data infrastructure and security

  • Latest generation workstations employing full automated encrypted backup and recovery processes with both soft and hard firewall provision. If necessary machines can be fully isolated for the duration of the project with all data transfers pre-scanned on recordable media.
  • Daily and on-demand scanning using anti-virus and anti-malware tools.
  • Guaranteed deletion of data sets following completion of project OR encrypted DVD storage in security safe before deletion. Stored data can be physically destroyed after an agreed period.
  • All client data stored during projects are held in encrypted file volume sets using blowfish 448-bit strong encryption.
  • Encrypted email/file transfer option.

Tools for data handling and analyses

  • Standard ANSI SQL and variants for common database platforms – SQL Server, My SQL, Pervasive SQL.
  • High level scripting tools for data manipulation and regular expression matching.
  • Multiple development toolkits available to provide ETL management, data analysis and reporting.
  • Statistical analyses are usually performed in S+ or R.
  • Full quality control is performed on each analyses and all syntax checked and re-run. All syntax is available for the client with detailed documentation of models.

Data analysis – modelling

  • Various types of data analysis have been performed including:
    • time to event.
    • conditional logistic regression.
    • Poisson and negative binomial regression.
    • complex two stage analysis for rare events (e.g. hospitalisation) controlling for clumping at zero, to evaluate additional cost burden or risk.
  • Tree analysis has proved popular with marketing and health outcomes teams, allowing clear identification of sub-phenotypes presenting in general practice.
  • Such analysis can also identify areas for cost offset or opportunity cost identification.
